Cook for Palestine 🇵🇸

Feb 15, 2024

We’re truly honored to be a part of a beautiful and meaningful event coming up at Field on Sunday, February 25th. Our good friend and neighbor Praxia Apostle initiated a conversation that blossomed into a caring collaboration. Together, we're utilizing our space to support the much-needed aid for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. As we’ve been planning, this dinner event has evolved into something truly heartfelt, and we’re so pleased to be part of it. Praxia will be leading the evening with intention and care, and I’d like to share a portion of her inspiring words with you here:

We find ourselves at the crossroads of joy and grief, of healing and pain, and of community and each of our own stories – a poignant intersection where this vulnerable, hopeful act of eating and drinking together becomes a conduit of reflection and connection. This shared meal is more than a culinary experience; it's an exploration of how our past and present intertwine, reminding us that the stories of our cultures are intricately woven through the tapestry of our food.

We hope to tell a different story of Palestine - one of resilience, of generosity, of joy as resistance, and of a people with deep connection to the land and the seasons - as we experience the complexity and richness of Palestinian cuisine.  For Palestinian’s food is political - as in it is a marker of existence, and elevating Palestinian food is one way to resist being erased or made invisible.

In each dish lies a story, a narrative woven with threads of love, care, and familial tradition. Palestinian author and cook, Reem Kassis', shares that the secret to cooking well is love - love of ingredients, love of the process, but most of all love for the people you are feeding. During this dinner event, we feed ourselves, we feed you, and we aim to feed the hungry people of Gaza who we hold in our hearts.

In line with these touching sentiments, Praxia and our kitchen crew have designed a thoughtful and delicious menu of Palestinian cuisine, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and resilience inherent in every dish.

We will be hosting two seatings for this event, at 4pm and 7pm, offering a cozy and communal dining experience. Additionally, we are excited to feature two different wines from Cremisan Winery in Bethlehem and will have a selection of Palestinian pantry goods and regional wines available for take-home.

All proceeds will go directly to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Join us in a meaningful evening of reflection and support for a vital cause, as we immerse ourselves in the rich joys of Palestinian hospitality and cuisine.

Here are links to the tickets - please note that communal table folks may be sharing food plates with others:
